Step 1: Find a friend with an iPhone 3.0 (iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS) or iPod touch 3.0 (2nd Generation). NOTE: DisConnect is a two-player game for the iPhone 3.0 (iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS) and iPod touch 3.0 (2nd Generation), and requires that both players have purchased and installed the DisConnect app, and are able to connect to each other via Bluetooth. NOTE: If Voice Chat is enabled on an iPod touch, a headset (not included, purchased separately) is required. Step 2: Find your friend on DisConnect. Both players must be running DisConnect. When the game begins, the disc is displayed, and the stars are moving. At the bottom of the screen, a toolbar is displayed as shown below: ![]() To start looking for players, tap the icon on the toolbar, and the screen will change, as shown below.![]() NOTE: This process can take up to a minute, especially for the first time connecting to a device. When the game recognizes another player, the name of their device will display in a list of players, as shown below. ![]() Tap the other player's device name to invite the player to play DisConnect or wait for an invitation, as shown below. ![]() Tap "Accept" to accept the invitation and begin play. If you decline to play, you will resume looking for players, and the other player will be notified as shown below. They can tap "OK" to resume looking for other players. ![]() Step 3: Game Play When the game begins, a tone will sound, and the screen will show a disc glowing blue in the stars, and a flashing blue left and right arrow sign in the middle of the screen, as shown below. Either player can throw the disc to start the game, but the receiver controls the next move. The scoreboard at the top now shows the two peer-to-peer player iPhone or iPod touch device names that are playing the game. ![]() NEW! Improved Touch Speed Control with "Warp Speed": This exciting enhanced feature allows you to control the speed of your disc, and how much or how little time the other player will have to catch the disc, before the catch failure tone is sounded (if sounds are enabled). NOTE: This feature is only available before throwing a disc, and is disabled after a disc is thrown until it is your turn to throw the disc again. To change the speed, glide your finger across the white (blue) buttons on the center of the disc, and if sound is turned on, each will sound a tone. The more segments that appear lit in blue means that the disc will travel faster to the other player. The easiest speed is one single bar, which is about 4.0 seconds to catch the disc. The default speed when the game starts is 4.0 seconds, to make it easy-to-play upon startup. "Warp Speed" Mode: For those players looking for the ultimate challenge in speed - we offer "Warp Speed" Mode. Tap the last speed setting as shown below and the stars will fly by at warp speed, and if sound is enabled, you will hear a distinct sound. ![]() In this mode, your disc will be thrown at the fastest speed, and your player will have to catch it in about a second, leaving very little time to react and decide how to catch it. We have tested it here at Burn the Box, so it is possible. We recommend giving it a try, even if just for the sound of it! NOTE: In this mode, the receiving player will not get a warning tone, but simply hear the sound of warp speed, just to give them even less reaction time. IMPORTANT NOTE: The speed control will disappear with no warning tone, when a disc is either thrown or sent to you. Your last speed settings will be saved. Throwing a Disc: When one of the players throws a disc, after a brief sound, their display will show a spinning disc in the starry sky with a moving dot that moves in the direction of the spin while it waits for the player to receive and then catch or miss the disc, as shown below. ![]() Receiving a Disc: The receiving player sees a spinning disc, hears a warning tone, and a flashing arrow sign, instructing them on which way to catch the disc, depending on which way it was thrown, as shown below. ![]() The receiving player has an adjustable time between 1 and 4 seconds (adjustable in half seconds, default is 4.0 seconds) after the tone to catch the disc. To catch the disc, move the device in the direction arrow flashing on the screen. Receiving a Warp Speed Mode Disc: When a disc thrown in Warp Mode is received, a single warp speed sound (if sound is enabled) will sound, and the display will show a warp speed sky and a direction to catch the disc. This mode is unable to be captured in a picture, so you will have to try it to see it! IMPORTANT NOTE: Remember, you have about one (1) second to react, and move the device in the appropriate direction! Catching and Missing a Disc: If the disc is caught, the display changes to show a glowing bright disc, with a distinct sound, as shown below. ![]() If the disc is missed, the display changes to show a dark disc, with sparks flashing and rotating in the center, with a distinct sound, as shown below. ![]() Resetting the Game: Once the disc is caught or missed, the up arrow sign will be flashing on the receiver's device, and a new feature called "Peer Cam" will appear on the sender's device. Our EXCLUSIVE "Peer Cam" View displays a spinning holographic 3D image of the other player's disc to show the player if the the disc was caught or missed, as shown below. ![]() To "recharge" the disc after a catch or miss, the receiver must flip the device up until you hear a tone, and the receiver's screen returns the one shown in Step 3. The receiver can now throw a disc to the other. The game is played until a player scores 21 (and when a World Champion trophy will be awarded to the winning player), presses the icon to find new players, or the P2P network is disconnected. If this happens, you will hear a tone, and a notification alert will pop up. At this time, you can find new players, and play with the same player if they return to the game.Using Voice Chat Back to Top Tuning DisConnect DisConnect by nature is a peer-to-peer (P2P) game, requiring two players. Silent Mode/Vibrate (on iPhone) or Silent Mode (on iPod touch): DisConnect sounds can be completely silenced in three ways: turning the volume all the way down, muting the device if it is an iPhone, and using "Silent Mode" or "Silent Mode/Vibrate" in the DisConnect settings. Since sound is an essential part of the DisConnect app, we recommend an alternative by turning on the "Silent Mode/Vibrate" option on the iPhone and "Silent Mode" on the iPod touch by setting this switch to the on position, which will vibrate the iPhone but will play no DisConnect sounds on the iPod touch, when a sound would normally be played. NOTE: When Voice Chat is initiated, Silent Mode will also mute the Voice Chat volume. Continuous Display: DisConnect is a physically interactive game that requires sight, sound, and motion to be fully enjoyed. This includes keeping the screen display available, for visual instructions. By default, the display will be left on, and overrides display settings on the device. To enable the device display timeout, set this switch to the off position. A: DisConnect requires a both minimum and maximum of two players, each with their own iPhone 3G or 3GS 3.0 or iPod touch 3.0 (2nd Generation) device with Bluetooth enabled, the DisConnect application on each device, and optionally, an internet connection (cellular data or WiFi) to send Facebook updates. If Facebook is used for updates, a valid Facebook account is necessary for each player who wish to post updates. If Voice Chat will be used on an iPod touch, a headset with a microphone is required. Q: What is Voice Chat? A: Voice Chat is the ability to connect the speaker and microphone of your device (see question above regarding iPod touch) to the peer-to-peer game experience. Instead of having a chat by typing on the keyboard on your device, you can share a conversation while playing DisConnect, or make comments about gameplay. We think you'll enjoy it! Q: Do I have to use Voice Chat? A: Voice Chat is an optional feature, and can be disabled completely, or muted during gameplay. If another player initiates a voice chat, by disabling this feature, the connection will be denied. Q: In what languages is DisConnect available? A: You'll find that this game was designed to be more physical, and auditory versus textual, for the strict purpose of ease of internationalization. The use of text is minimal for this reason. The game was originally written in English. The Facebook updates are also written in English. Twitter Updates can be customized to use whatever language you can type on your keyboard. Q: Where's the instructions and How do I play DisConnect? A: You can learn to play anytime by tapping the Q: Do I have to use Facebook? A: No, Facebook connectivity is optional. In fact, according to Facebook's guidelines, DisConnect customers have to explicitly grant permission to allow Facebook updates. If you need a Facebook account, please click here Q: What is transmitted to Facebook? A: DisConnect was developed according to the Facebook Connect guidelines, requiring all updates to be previewed and approved to the end-user with the option to send to Facebook. According to the application settings, what is transmitted are the type of device being played on, the device names of the two devices playing DisConnect, and various events of DisConnect game play, from game start-up, to throwing, catching, and missing (it happens, you'll see...) the flying disc, including the current score, and victory status!. If you wish, you may link Twitter to Facebook, and send your customized Twitter updates to Facebook! Q: I don't want to send everything to Facebook -- how can I only send certain event updates or nothing at all? A: In the spirit of collaboration and connectivity - we encourage you to share your experiences on Facebook. However, DisConnect can be configured to not log into Facebook at all, and send specific game event updates on-demand. Q: Do I have to use Twitter? A: No, Twitter connectivity is optional. Since Twitter content is more flexible, you can customize what is sent via Twitter from DisConnect. If you need a Twitter account, please click here Q: What is transmitted to Twitter? A: What is transmitted to Twitter is the same information that is sent via Facebook. The last move, device names, device type, and current score are sent to Twitter. If you wish, you may link Twitter to Facebook, and send your customized Twitter updates to Facebook! Q: How do I turn off the sound? A: That's easy. Simply tap the Q: What does "Continuous Display" do? A: Another easy one. This keeps the iPhone's display on until DisConnect is finished playing. Since the game is interactive, we thought it's best to keep the game's display always on - the default setting. Q: How do I give myself more or less time to catch the disc? A: That is controlled by the other player, if it's too fast, initiate a voice chat, and tell them to slow down! Q: The game is too sensitive or not sensitive enough for me. What do I do? A: DisConnect has been tuned for the best motion-sensing performance, and have eliminated as much room for error as we can while keeping the game playable. We suggest stronger or slower motions to get the desired effect. We're confident that once you get the motion down, it will become second nature to you. Q: I use my iPhone or iPod touch in a corporate setting, with a firewall and/or proxy, can I still connect? A: DisConnect 3.0 uses a peer-to-peer Bluetooth connection between devices, which does not use your corporate networking infrastructure at all. If you choose to use a WiFi wireless connection, only Facebook updates will be transmitted through WiFi wireless, otherwise they will be sent via the cellular data network, completely "invisible" to your corporate network. To ensure that Facebook updates are sent via celluar and not WiFi, be sure to turn off WiFi wireless on your device. So yes, you can enjoy DisConnect 3.0 on your iPhone 3.0 or iPod touch 3.0 at home, at work, outside, or inside - anywhere where there is another iPhone or iPod touch with Bluetooth available! Q: I give up - where do I get support? A: Our recommendation as follows: Try revisiting the built-in help, "Learn How to Play" steps, and FAQs, otherwise always feel free to contact us anytime via email at info@burnthebox.us |
